Abstract
Herat, one of Afghanistan's major cultural cities, has consistently played an influential role in the production, distribution, and consumption of literature. This study aims to examine the state of literary consumption in Herat from 1390 to 1400, utilizing Robert Escarpit's approach to analyze one of its main dimensions: literary consumption. The research method employed is descriptive-analytical, with data collected through field and library-based methods. The primary tool for data collection was a researcher-developed questionnaire, distributed among 384 individuals with at least a high school diploma, based on the Morgan table. Findings indicate that literary consumption in Herat experienced slight growth over the decade, yet still lags significantly behind global standards. This issue largely stems from poets', writers', and literary associations' limited understanding of audience preferences and the lack of effective efforts to cultivate this taste. By providing strategies to enhance literary consumption in Herat, this study can assist literature producers and distributors in the city
